healthy relationship tips

Hey, cuties!

I have been in a relationship for 4 years now and I feel so blessed to have him in my life. I think that finding the right person plays a huge role in a successful relationship but, I think there are ways to make your relationship a success no matter what. I believe every relationship is unique in its own way, but there are some important traits I think they should all have to last and be healthy.

RESPECT EACH OTHER

Your partner's wishes and feelings have value, and so do yours. Let your significant other know you are making an effort to keep their ideas in mind. Mutual respect is essential in maintaining a healthy relationship.

LOVE EACH OTHER

This is the most important part of a romantic relationship. You have to love each other regardless of the fights, the past and tiny pet peeves.

DON'T BE OVERLY POSSESSIVE

It's important to give each other some freedom. As much as you love each other, there will be times when you might need space. Sometimes you need to spend time with friends separately, or just have some me-time.

COMPROMISE

The relationship is not all about you.

There is another person with interests and values that may differ from yours. Disagreements are a natural part of a healthy relationship, but it's important that you find a way to compromise if you disagree or something. Now and then, you have to sacrifice your own interest.

TRUST EACH OTHER

It is very important to keep building trust. Do everything in your power to prevent trust from being broke down.

Make your significant other feel secure in your relationship.

Don't hide things from each other (even if the truth might hurt).

Don't put each other down.

BE SUPPORTIVE

Offer reassurance and support each others' goals and dreams. Give him courage and make him feel good and comfortable when he's doing something. Also, let your partner know when you need their support. Healthy relationships are about building each other up, not putting each other down.

Every time I'm sharing an idea, a goal of mine he is always saying "you can do this, I believe in you". He is always by my side, cheering for me. He helps me in any way he can and I truly appreciate it. When I accomplish something, he smiles at me and say "I told you, you can do it". There is nothing more precious than that. Find someone that will believe in you more than you do.

DON'T RUSH INTO ANYTHING

Whether it's hugging or kissing, cuddling or sex, don't rush into it. Just, go with the flow... If at any point, you don't want or don't feel ready to engage in the activity, let the person know. Tell them. Speak up. If they respect you they will understand.

COMMUNICATE

Communication is everything. Learn to communicate with your partner. If there is a problem, talk about it. It is important to speak your mind to your partner no matter what. If something scares you, troubles you, upsets you...just say it! Sometimes we think that if we keep all that inside of us and stay silent, it will be easier. Hiding the problem doesn't solve it. Things are working for us now because of our endless conversations, those long night rumblings, those never-ending phone calls, our disagreements and mutual understanding in the end. Every time we discuss something, I "see" a piece of his mind, I come to understand him a little more and that brings us closer.

STAY FAITHFUL

If you have to sneak to do it, lie to cover it up or delete it to avoid it being seen, then maybe you shouldn't be doing it.

BE ROMANTIC

Never take your partner for granted.

Keep the romance alive by surprising your partner with romantic, thoughtful acts. This can be as simple as leaving a cute love note on the counter, or as big as cooking a fancy meal.

IF YOU SAY SORRY, MEAN IT

You can say sorry a million times, but if you're not going to prove it, your words don't mean a thing.

HAVE COMMON DREAMS

Have common dreams and goals about things that you wanna do together in the future. Having a successful relationship is not only about the things that are going on now but, also about your future.

Remember that no relationship is perfect. But, if you work hard enough, your relationship can be strong and healthy.
