self-care comes first
hello girls!
i believe that taking care of yourself is extremely important. both physically and mentally.
this article will mostly focus on some personal and useful advice from my experience and i love to do so, but it’s my duty to tell you that just because something is working for someone else, it doesn’t mean it will work for you.
because truth is that only you know how to take care of yourself completely. only you know yourself. your needs. your fears. your strengths. your thoughts.
MAKE A HOME SPA
creating your own at home spa can be really fun and relaxing. put on a face mask, run a hot bubble bath, scrub your body, shave (if you want to of course), paint your nails and listen to some relaxing music. you deserve to be pampered!
CREATE A HAPPY PLAYLIST
go on youtube and create a playlist where you add happy songs that makes you feel good and positive.
TREAT YOUR MIND NICELY
if you’re feeling bad, sit outside in the sun, touch the grass, take slow deep breaths and put your mind in a different place. be patient. look in the mirror. look at that person there. imagine they are your little sister with big eyes, open to the world, scared and unsure. treat yourself like you’d treat her. protect her, love her, tell her everything is gonna be okay, feed her, teach her, allow her to fail. forgive her. love her unconditionally. allow yourself to be human. allow yourself love, attention, sex, food, affection. none of these things are bad or shameful, and they aren’t shameful to want because they are GOOD for you.
WRITE YOUR FEELINGS DOWN
i know, i know everyone says this, but that's because it actually helps. getting things off your mind by writing them down, either by pen or on your computer, will ease your mind and give you time to reflect on how you feel.
CLEAN UP
if your room is a mess you will also fell like a mess. clean up and decorate your room with things you love, like pictures, drawings and quotes.
DRINK ALOT OF WATER
yes, i know this is so lame but it´s so freakin important to stay hydrated all the time. being hydrated makes you will feel better in your body and mind.
FREE YOURSELF
get away from unhealthy things that are holding you down like a bad relationship, bad friendship, bad eating habits, grudges, bad job...
LIGHT CANDLES
lighting candles are so relaxing and calming
READ A GOOD BOOK
sit down. relax. grab a cup of tea and read.
GO FOR A WALK
going for a walk can be so relaxing and will help you de-stress. if you live close to nature you could observe trees, birds, lakes or the beach for example. try walking with music and without music to see which you prefer. not only is walking good for your physical health, but also for your mental health.
COMPLIMENT YOURSELF
this is something that a lot of people are bad at, myself included. complementing yourself can be hard when you have a low self-esteem, but it shouldn't be. take time every day to look yourself in the mirror and point out things that you like about yourself. it could be your eye colour, your hands, your ability to sing... if you find this hard then, you could think about how grateful you are to have a working body. a body with eyes to see, legs to walk or a voice to speak. not all people have this and therefore we should be grateful.
DO SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
go dancing! attend a lesson in painting! go read a book, go to a thrift store, stay at home! read a book, watch a movie, cry over music. do something, as long as it makes you happy & not leave you feeling empty.
SPEND SOME TIME ALONE
spend time alone, study yourself. study your interests, dislikes, feelings, memories, body. indulge in yourself. you’re the most important thing in your life. create yourself the way you want to be.
SIT DOWN & BREATHE
remember to relax, if it's in school, at home, on the bus, just remember to take some time and sit down. sitting down and firmly placing your feet on the ground can give you a sense of comfort as you know you have something beneath your feet.
when you're sitting down, take a few deep breaths, close your eyes and then hold your breath for a few seconds and breathe out.
EAT HEALTHY
no, i am not telling you to eat salad for each of your meals, i don’t do that either.
WATCH A TV SERIE/ MOVIE WITH SOME SNACKS
prepare a snack, put on a good movie or tv-series, light some candles and just snuggle up in your bed or couch with your favourite blanket and relax. this is a nice way to end your day and get prepared for bed. it's a small treat for yourself every night after a stressful day.
self-care isn't always pretty, it's not always candles and a bathtub full of roses. sometimes it's forcing yourself to get out of bed and dragging yourself. sometimes, it's the preptalk you give to yourself or the quick cry in the corner. sometimes, it's convincing yourself to do all these things you should be doing but, you have no will whatsoever. self-care is cutting some ties no matter how precious they were. self-care isn't always pretty but is so worth it.
& remember to always focus on the good💕
